Burning June Sun, Lord Frederic Leighton
Burning June sun is a pictorial work Lord Frederic Leighton. Painted in oil in 1895, it is widely regarded as Leighton's masterpiece showing his classical nature, and a perfect example of the Academicist movement. It is believed that the woman portrayed alludes to the sleeping figures that the Greeks often painted and collectively called Venus. The toxic oleander branch in the upper right symbolizes the fragile link between sleep and death.
