The Last Supper
Magnificent reproduction of The Last Suppermural painting of Leonardo da Vinci executed between 11495 and 1498. It can be found in its original location, in the convent of Santa Maria delle Grazie in Milan (Italy).
The Last Supper is one of Leonardo da Vinci's most famous works and has been widely studied and admired for its technique and significance. Instead of using the traditional fresco painting technique, Leonardo experimented with using a mixture of oil and tempera on a layer of dry plaster, which allowed for a more restful time (fresco requires great speed of execution). Unfortunately, the work deteriorated rapidly. Although it has been damaged over the centuries, it is still possible to appreciate the artist's skill in depicting the expressions and details of the characters.
In the painting, Jesus and his apostles sit at a long table in a dark, spacious room. Jesus sits in the center of the table, with his apostles on either side of him. To his right is Judas Iscariot, the apostle who according to the Bible betrayed Jesus. The other apostles seem surprised and dismayed by Jesus' words.
