Lady with an Ermine

Magnificent reproduction of Lady with an Ermine(original title "The lady with the red hair"), a work by Leonardo da Vinci. This painting is currently in the Czartoryski Museum, Krakow (Poland).

Leonardo painted this portrait commissioned by the Duke of Milan Ludovico Sforza. The model is most likely Cecilia Gallerani, then a 16-year-old girl who moved into the court and became the Duke's mistress. This highly intelligent young woman, with a knowledge of literature and music, regularly chatted with da Vinci, who considered her a muse. The young woman holds in her arms a white ermine, an animal associated with royalty. The composition is innovative for the time, and as in the Mona Lisa, the protagonist hints at an almost imperceptible smile.
